I read this story today & was somewhat shocked by Michael Richards’ comments during a recent performance.
I am not totally shocked because I feel that he is just saying what a lot of people feel (white) & keep inside.
"Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a fucking fork up your ass."
I am not sure how I would have reacted had I been in the audience that night. Actually I know how I would have reacted. Before the set was over, I would have left the building & prepared a can to collect reparations in the fashion of Damali Ayo.
One thing that I found really interesting was that the Laugh Factory did not cancel his show the following day. I think in most cases following an incident like this one the following shows would have definitely been canceled. Since they were not, I am trying to rationalize what statement the LF is sending.
Maybe if Richards made a public apology while staged with 2 Rented Negros all would be good?!?
"Kramer's" Racist Tirade -- Caught on Tape
Michael Richards exploded in anger as he performed at a famous L.A. comedy club last Friday, hurling racial epithets that left the crowd gasping, and TMZ has obtained exclusive video of the ugly incident.
Richards, who played the wacky Cosmo Kramer on the hit TV show "Seinfeld," appeared onstage at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood. Kyle Doss, an African-American, told TMZ he and some friends were in the cheap seats and he was playfully heckling Richards when suddenly, the comedian lost it.
The camera started rolling just as Richards began his attack, screaming at one of the men, "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a fucking fork up your ass."
Richards continued, "You can talk, you can talk, you're brave now motherfucker. Throw his ass out. He's a nigger! He's a nigger! He's a nigger! A nigger, look, there's a nigger!"
The crowd is visibly and audibly confused and upset. Richards responds by saying, "They're going to arrest me for calling a black man a nigger."
One of the men who was the object of Richard's tirade was outraged, shouting back "That's un-fucking called for, ain't necessary."
After the three-minute tirade, it appears the majority of the audience members got up and left in disgust.
Attempts to reach Richards' reps were unsuccessful.
Also check out the CNN story with an interview of one of the audience members. My question from the CNN story is; why come when something is caught on tape the media still say alleged/allegedly when it is painfully obvious what was said or done?

The Update: Mumbling Bumbling Apology
MR sounds like a bumbling fool in this video & why are people laughing in the audience, no jokes were cracked unless I missed something. He is luck to have Jerry Seinfeld as a friend to help him not look as dumb.
One thing I liked about the apology/interview was the question that Letter posed about what would he have done if the hecklers were White or Asian etc. No matter what he still said that shit and if he were a good comedian he could have gotten over the hecklers without showing his true colors.
