The video may take a second to download but it’s worth the wait. I decided to record this video because I just could not write the words out to explain my experience with the passion that I wanted express. If you are new to the Mind Spill Blog, I suggest you read my Ghetto Disclaimer before proceeding.
To view you will need Apple’s Quicktime Player installed.

Hey Lubangakene,
I did it on my Macbook Pro, which has a built in camera (iSight). I recorded & edited the video with iMovie HD, a Mac based program, then converted the video to quicktime format & uploaded to my blog.
The Mac really does a lot for you in regards to putting together videos. From start to finish on this project, it took me about 30 minutes & this includes the little transition images that I did in Photoshop.

So Tafari,
I’ve got a G4 laptop, Final Cut and also IMovie, though I don’t use it cuz of FCP. I’m really trying to do audio blogging first, but video down the road. I’m trying to keep it real simple, cuz my brain can’t process too much of this technical bullshit.
Help a brotha keep it simple.

WoW Tafari…WOW!!!…powerful!! First of all allow me to compliment you on the filming… BEAUTIFUL…the claritiy is amazing… Watching you I can FEEL your disillusionment with what you experienced…it made me really GET what you were feeling…the separation from your own people while in the same room…it also made me feel sad…you know what I’d been feeling of late, but I’m better now…
I have eaten bean pie and it was good…I HAVE felt that separation you speak about, but it was when I was a kid in school, and more based on my Father teaching in the same school I attended…that was pretty awful…I guess this is kind of a touchy subject for some people… which is why no one is really responding… They probably shouldn’t have made it seem as if EVERYONE was welcome and taken your booth fee if the community isn’t really open to other business’….I don’t blame you for not attending any more of these events…((((HUGS))))

@ Lubangakene – If you have Garage Band (http://tinyurl.com/2l96m) installed then it has a pod casting feature that seems really simple to use.
I did some digging around & found some other resources for you
Cast Life: http://tinyurl.com/2gf82t
Feed Fro All: http://tinyurl.com/282yo3 (this will help get your pod cast uploaded for iTunes)
Let me know if you need more info or help
@ Daez – Suite Suzy watched it the other night & was like you keep saying the same shit over & over LOL. I knew I was but as you saw I am still tripping over it, even after I talked to you.
Your father teaching at the same school is almost like being a preachers kid LOL. Self imposed or real alienation from a group of peers does not feel too good.

@ Daez – One-mo-gin; “.I guess this is kind of a touchy subject for some people… which is why no one is really responding.” I almost did not put this out after I was done with it because it was like wow to me also.
I then said fuck it, these are my feelings, my experience & fact based (with a little embellishment).
I was not sure if anyone would say anything…

I know what you mean…I could hear it in your voice when we were talking, that you we kinda shocked and in disbelief about the whole experience…it’s written all over your face as well…
In reality the only way someone can respond is by relaying their own experience in a similar situation..and even then it’s not QUITE the same, is it???…the feeling of being totally isolated amongst your own people is rare, unless for instance you were to take someone like me, with long dreads and a totally laid back attitude as well as attire… (sweat pants and t-shirt)…
Put me in a room with a grip of women with weaves, Baby Phat booty shorts and halters, and watch what happens… ROFLOL!!!…(((HUGS)))

The video left me lost for words for about 1 minute. Then I laughed for about 5 minutes. Then I decided to leave a comment. I think that you feeling allienated at the event is not unusual. When it comes to African Americans, Negros or Black People(Whatever we choose to be called)we will not go out of our way to make someone else feel welcome. Especially if that person has different beliefs than we do. I think when it comes to the Nation of Islam they believe that if you are not with them you are against them. Black White or indifferent. It does not matter. They have their own way of thinking. I have lots of respect for members of the Nation but I find some of the things that they believe in just too much and extreme. But to each its own I suppose.
And I completely understand feeling alone when you should feel at home. My mother moved me and my siblings around for most of our lives. I have been to 8 Schools in my 12 year career. And everytime I moved I felt more and more alone. But I must say it was the worst when we moved to Alabama and I had to go to an all Black School. I was picked on for short hair. Then when my hair grew out I was picked on for having long hair. I also was told that since I spoke in complete sentences that I was trying to be white and it did not help that I was a bit on the heavy side. It made it really hard for me to accept myself for who I was. Then I realized that if people didn’t like me for me then they could take themselves and that personal problem straight to Hell. You should have said fuck it and been straight up Tafari. Do you and if they don’t like it they can fuck off.
Peace

You sure do speak you mind! I thought the Bean Pie Piece was hilarious. I have had a little and it taste alright. The hair thing & and tattoo thing … well you know the could have got the tat before getting “saved” .. hair well [shrug] I personally don’t think its that big a deal.
Again I am impressed with your willingness to post video.
I’m going to have to give it a try.
@Maxjulian
You’re in Portland right? I am too. I have played around a little with the tools in Garage Band and iMovie & can try and help you out if you need it.

Hey Terell,
Ain’t nothing to it so but that Mac book to work brotha!!!
To this day my friend & I laugh about the experience we had that weekend. She tells me that if I mention bean pie again while in her presence, that she is going to choke.
You are right about the tattoo piece, it is not like that can be washed away but something tells me that some got them while “saved” LOL.
Max is one cool brotha so it would be awesome if you could hook up with him. He works as a videographer & a Mac users so I am sure you will have lot’s of geeky stuff to discuss.
Peace,
