Over the last few weeks, I have been eating a lot of pomegranates & posting images of them online. They are such a beautiful & delicious fruit!

I have found it interesting how many people asked me what they are, how do you eat them & how healthy are they. I also heard from a few people that they do not eat them because they are too much work.

A few recent pomegranate comments from Flickr:

“Your Photo gives the most justice I’ve ever seen done to a pomegranate!”

“Pomegranate wins the award for “biggest pain in the ass.” Very tasty though!”

“Superb! I’ve never eaten one…. :)”

“Your picture has inspired me to go and buy pomegranates!!”

I guess because I love them so, I do not think that they are hard to deal with.  I actually find them fun to open, sticky fingers and all.

When I open a pomegranate, my goal is to a) never drop any of the arils on the floor when removing them from the husk (stains the ceramic tile) & b) not bursting any arils during the removal process.

If you still have not tried one, make it happen before they disappear since they are seasonal & fragile.

To open a pomegranate:

  • Cut off the “crown” (the very top), then score the outer layer of skin into 4 sections (avoid cutting all the way through the husk).
  • In a large bowl of cool water, break apart the sections along the score lines. Gently pluck out the arils (the juicy red pieces). The arils will sink to the bottom while the white/yellow membrane floats to the top.
  • Examine & remove any missed membrane from the arils then drain of water& floating membrane.
  • Your red juicy delights are ready to eat. Mmmmmmmmm

Lastly, guys if you are adventurous like my boy RawDawgBuffalo, you will enjoy pomegranate while performing cunnilingus (eating pussy if you prefer being crass). I’m just saying!!!
