I bit the bullet & added the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 to my lens collection. I had been debating this purchase for a while my interested reignited when fellow photographer Paul Giunta informed me that he made the move recently himself.

After mulling over my choices, I jumped in feet first & put my Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 on eBay Monday evening with a buy it now price of $900 & it sold in less than one hour. This was a sign that it was meant to be. With that headache out of the way, I found a great deal online for the new lens & the rest is history.

With all of my lenses in line, this summer when I upgrade my camera, I’ll officially ready for the full frame format. Took a little while to build up but it has been worth it.

Bright Idea

Usually, I am able to execute most of the photography concepts that I scheme up. If I’m not able to get what I want exactly, I close enough to be happy with the end results.

My idea with this image turned out the exact opposite of what I wanted & I’m so/so OK with it.

My original idea was to have a hand holding the compact fluorescent bulb with the bulb not over exposed & while using strobe lighting. Kinda like those clever ads for CF bulbs or environmental stock type photos.

I knew that I would have to pull off the concept with two exposures but it just didn’t happen.

I think I will try again & figure out how I can make my concept a reality or get daring & try the tip that was featured on the Strobist website a few years ago.

So much for my bright idea!

The Perfect Mix Tape

Author: Tafari, Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 at 11:29 PM

When I was a boy, I used to make mix tapes all the time from the radio. I thought I was a pro at it! I never caught the commercials or the DJ talking. This made my mix tapes popular with the ladies.

Mix tapes required thought, good timing & effort. Making drag & drop playlists or CDs is just not the same.

Essayist Michael Resnick has said:

“With the CD revolution in the near past and the digital revolution at hand, our music collections exist increasingly on hard drives, computer software, and mp3 players, while vinyl and CDs collect dust in the attic. Simultaneously, the ‘mix tape’ has gone digital, the medium for which it seems it was always meant.”

I wonder if my children will ever reminisce over CDs or their vibrantly colored & shiny 8GB iPod Nanos?

My how times change!

Fun With Google

Author: Tafari, Thursday, February 11th, 2010 at 10:00 PM

Just for shits & giggles, I decided to see what a few random Google auto searches would yield by simply typing in “black people…” I guess a lot of people are Googling such topics like illustrated below. Is it BS, racism, coincidental or just crazy?

And for the record, I don’t act like an animal, smell like cocoa butter or sour milk, nor do I love watermelon. In fact, I hate watermelon but I LOVE some good fried chicken.

Silly Things in Photoshop

Author: Tafari, Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 at 8:10 PM

A few weeks ago while working in Photoshop (CS4), I accidentally unselected the “resize window to fit” option & had no idea that I did so.

Since them I was trying to figure out what I did to have my open windows not zooming to the sizes that I set my documents to be so I had to resize them manually. This was a mild annoyance until today when I accidentally figured out what was causing the issue.

Had I done some quick Googling, I would have found this answer & saved myself a mini headache. Sometimes I forget the power of the internet. Duh!

Automatically resize the window when zooming

- With the Zoom tool active, select Resize Windows To Fit in the options bar. The window is resized when you magnify or reduce the view of the image.

When Resize Windows To Fit is deselected (the default), the window maintains a constant size regardless of the image magnification. This can be helpful when using smaller monitors or working with tiled views.

Note: To automatically resize the window when using keyboard shortcuts to reduce or magnify an image view, choose Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > General (Mac OS), then select the Zoom Resizes Windows preference and click OK.

I <3 Typography

Inspired atfer watching the movie “Helvetica,” which is a font that I happen love.

Typography refers to the arrangement of text on a page, and appears in some form or another in all instances of written communication. Depending on the purpose, typography can be used for optimum readability, impact, or an artistic statement. Some graphic designers work totally in text, and study typography extensively while they perfect their art. Quality typography can make a big difference in communications, because it can impact the way the reader sees and feels about the topic being discussed.

Fonts used in this design include: Arial, Bell Gothic StandardBASEHEAD, Bell Gothic Standard, Helvetica, Matomato, Memoriam Pro, & Myndraine

New Home! New Look! New Everything!

Author: Tafari, Friday, February 5th, 2010 at 12:26 AM

Bygbaby.com Mindspill Dear Blogger, it was great while it lasted. OK. Thanks. Bye!

Yesterday when I got the notice from Blogger letting me know that they were ending their FTP service, I went into a tech-boy downward spiral. Today I’m out of my funky mood, another unwanted surprise project is now done & I am officially a Wordpress blogger.

Thankfully, I found this great tutorial that walked me through the process, which took all of 8 minutes. I so love Googling any & everything because there’s always an answer! Google is life’s best friend!!!

After all of my posts & comments were imported to this new space, all had to do was dress things up bit to reflect my style & the rest is history.

I have to say that I am very impressed with the power of the Wordpress platform. I will experimenting with some of the new options that I have now over the next few days.

I’m not going to say that I should have done this ages ago but I was really sleeping at the wheel…

So anyway, I hope you dig my new crib!

BTW, if you are on Blogger & host your own blog via FTP, be sure to read this so that you are not left in the dark.

Laying Back

I shot a wedding in Cancun back in August last year & took several personal photos on the beach. When I got back home, I realized that I accidentally deleted them all with the exception of a few.

I was really bummed because the ones that I wanted the most were the ones that were gone.

Today, while cleaning up the photos on my iPhone I discovered this shot that I took with it while I was laying back relaxing & I have to say that I am very happy with the quality considering the fact that it was taken with an iPhone. Not only was I happy with the quality, I had no idea that the image size was so large. Who says that the iPhone camera sucks?

The original image was 2048×1536. I’m cool with that!

Bright Ideas

Suite Suzy & I recently got the kids a Wii along with some fun games & they are loving it.

After spending 8 hours hooking that bitch up & figuring it out, I’m now realizing how fun it actually is. Mario Cart is my shit BTW!

With a little practice in now, I see the potential for Nintendo to add in some adult oriented entertainment.

So, with that said, after the holidays are over, I’m contacting Nintendo to discuss my ideas for a game titled “Wii Fuck.”

The “Wii Fuck,” would come with a Jack Rabbit for women & a Fleshlight for men. The goal of the game would be to get off before your opponent.

Would you order a copy???
